Three area high school high school golf teams entered Friday’s final round of the TSSAA state championships with legitimate chances of bringing home titles.
By tournament’s end, those three had all lived up to the promise.
The Christian Academy of Knoxville girls’ golf team repeated with ease in Division II-A, winning back-to-back state titles for the second time in program history. The first came in the 2015-16 seasons.
As for the Greeneville girls and First Baptist Academy (FBA) boys, they won their first-ever championships in their programs’ histories.
Greeneville knocked off Murfreesboro Central in a one-hole playoff to capture the Division I, Class A, state title.
And FBA, its team title was the first for any sport in its school’s history. It won the Division II-A boys’ championship Friday by seven shots.

DIVISION I-A

Greeneville led the Division I-A girls team competition by five strokes entering Friday’s final round but the back nine proved unkind for the Lady Green Devils down the stretch Friday. Murfreesboro Central managed to pull even with Greeneville with a two-day total of 20-over 300 at Sevierville Golf Club’s Highlands Course. Summertown finished third at 311, and Alcoa fifth at 319.
Despite the adversity in closing out the win in regulation, Greeneville took care of the matter on the extra playoff hole. Brylee Catron made a birdie and Kylee Renner made a par.
Greeneville finished runner-up in 1984 and 2009 but finally got a gold trophy to its name.
“It feels so great to finally get to what we all have been working for for so long,” Catron said, “and to make history feels amazing.”
Greeneville junior Brylee Catron (73-77) and sophomore Kylee Renner (74-76) tied for fourth individually and set the pace for the team win. Greeneville sophomore Kamryn Renner (77-81) tied for 11th.
Springfield’s Elizabeth Prowse won the girls individual title with matching rounds of 71. Her 2-over 142 mark won by four strokes over Murfreesboro Central’s Lauren Powell.
Murfreesboro Central, led by twin sisters Anna and Lauren Powell, returns its entire lineup like Greeneville does for the 2026 campaign.
While Greeneville is enjoying its 2025 state win, Catron said it’s exciting to think about another run with her teammates in 2026.
“And to have the same competition will be very motivating,” Catron said, “because both the twins from the other school (Murf. Central) will be there, as well.”
Signal Mountain swept the boys championships, posting 26-over 602 to win a team title by 22 shots over Dyer County. Elizabethton (658) was fifth and Kingston (663) seventh.
Signal Mountain’s Sam Otwell shot rounds of 68 and 75 to finish at 1-under 143 and to capture the boys individual title by one shot over Stone Memorial’s Parker Beck (73-71).
DIVISION II-AA

First Baptist Academy took a five-stroke lead in the Friday’s final round but had four of its opponents in the six-team field within at least six shots of it after Day One.
Alex Green’s round, though, proved to be the stuff of heroes — and his FBA teammates stayed away from critical mistakes on the final six holes.
Alex Green shot a 5-under 67 on the River Course, bogeying the first hole but not making another mistake on his scorecard the rest of the way. He returned to par with a birdie on the par-5 third and then shot 5 under on his final 12 holes, including consecutive birdies on hole Nos. 7-8 and 17-18.
“My coach Jeremy Cox always says “focus on one shot at a time and focus on the process.’ My ball-striking was great yesterday and was great today. I just played golf and let the putts fall when they could,” said Green. “I stayed aggressive to my targets and attacked when I could.
“I’d definitely say putting and scrambling played the largest factor (today) aside from ball-striking.”
FBA, as team, posted a 6-over 294 on Friday but that featured a 1-under stretch on hole Nos. 13-18.
The Eagles wound up at 14-over 590 for the event, which proved seven strokes clear of Franklin Road Academy, 12 clear of Jackson Christian and 19 clear of CAK and Webb-Bell Buckle.
“It hasn’t quite sunk in, but it feels like it’s been a long time coming,” Alex Green said of the state championship. “These guys have been so awesome to play with, and it’s just awesome to finally hold the trophy with them. To see it come to life, the process paid off.”
Walker Webb of FRA shot 10-under 134 over two days to capture the Division II-A boys individual title. He shot 7-under 65 in Friday’s final round. Jackson Christian’s Carson Andreoni took second (69-69—138). CAK’s Tyler Stafford tied for fifth at 3-under 141.
Green, of FBA, tied for third at 5-under 140. Every FBA player finished 16th or better. Jesse Clowers (75-75) was 12th. Maxwell Green (74-77) was 13th. Lane Stokes (74-78) tied for 14th. Brady Morris (76-76) was 16th.
Stokes is the only senior in FBA’s lineup, so the Eagles will have a viable chance at a repeat in 2026.

Speaking of repeat, the CAK girls’ team title turned out to be its fifth overall in program history and its second repeat.
The Lady Warriors posted a two-day winning total of 14-over 294 to coast to a 20-shot win over runner-up Lakeway Christian.
CAK senior Isabella Coughlin led CAK with a solo second-place individual finish. She carded a 74 on Day One but rallied Friday to fire a 69 and sign for a two-round total of 3-over 143.
“It was nice being able to win as a team again, especially being a senior,” Coughlin said.
CAK teammate Grady Thomas (76-75) tied for fifth individually.
Trinity Christian’s Tori Robinson shot 9-under 131 to claim the girls Division II-A crown.
Lakeway’s Riley Reed posted a final-round 70 to land solo third at 144.
As for Coughlin, she committed in April to play golf in college at Western Kentucky.
She had 17 pars and one birdie Friday for a clean final round to end her prep career.
“It felt great especially after not playing my best the first day,” Coughlin said. “It was nice finishing my high school career well.”
