MARYVILLE — Tory Beaufort strode across Jim Renfro Field before straightening out his path along the sideline.
The Maryville wide receiver, moments after gathering in a Will Jones pass at midfield, zipped past two West Ridge defenders and wasn’t close to being touched again as he raced 54 yards to the end zone late in the second quarter Friday.
Three plays after the Wolves grabbed momentum for the first time to trim the Rebels’ lead, Beaufort snatched it right back and provided the shot in the arm that Region 2 1-seed Maryville needed to beat Region 1 4-seed West Ridge, 42-7 in the first round of the Class 6A Playoffs at Shields Stadium.
The Rebels will face Region 3 3-seed Riverdale (8-3) in the second round at home next Friday.
