GATLINBURG — Living in the heart of the Smokies means low cloud ceilings are nothing unusual. But on Friday night, Gatlinburg-Pittman broke through a different kind of ceiling — one that had hung over the program for decades.
The Highlanders finally punched their way past the state quarterfinal round, outlasting Meigs County 34-30 in a Class 3A thriller that swung wildly for four quarters and ended with Jackson Savarese clutching an onside kick that pierced the ceiling once and for all.
