It looks like the Sevier County girls have a formidable basketball team again this season.
Junior guard Kaliyah Burden and sophomore point guard Aubree Thompson had 18 points each Tuesday night, leading Sevier County to a 53-31 victory over host Catholic in a non-district game.
The Bearettes went to the Class 4A state tournament in 2023 and 2024, and lost at Oak Ridge by a point in the state sectionals last spring.
“We have a chance to be pretty good,” Sevier County coach Jonathan Shultz said. “We know that. We’ve got to become consistent. We had too many turnovers tonight. In the second quarter we had some defensive lapses and battled some foul trouble, but I thought the girls really responded well at halftime. They came out in the second half and kind of showed what kind of ball club we are this year.”
