No doubt, Webb School of Knoxville made a splash football hire announcement on Tuesday.
The ripple effect proved to be tremendous, just after the Spartans tabbed former Maryville coaching great George Quarles as their next head football coach.
Quarles, of course, authored 11 state championships and and a winning percentage of .939 in his 18 seasons at the helm of the Rebels program.
But following the 2016 season, Quarles left the high school ranks and joined the coaching staff at Furman, his college alma mater. He later added stops at ETSU and Austin Peay, as well.
When Quarles returned to Maryville in mid-October for a ceremony honoring his coaching legacy, he expressed to the media that he and his family would someday like to come back to East Tennessee for good, possibly in retirement.
Who knew then that his return would be roughly two months later?
Nevertheless, Quarles is back. And 5Star Preps conducted a lengthy interview with him Wednesday night by phone.
Here’s a Q&A with new Webb football coach George Quarles…
