ALCOA — Gibbs finally got the result it had been chasing.
After dropping two earlier meetings to Alcoa this month, the Lady Eagles answered Monday with a 6-3 victory, using a quick start, 14-hit attack and a composed pitching effort to win a non-district showdown between two Class 3A powers.
For Gibbs, it was more than just another win. Alcoa beat the Lady Eagles twice at Gibbs’ tournament, and had lost only one other game this year.
“It’s a statement win,” Gibbs standout Shelby Williams said. “We took it to them all seven innings.”
