CLASS AAA:
Bearden 2, Ravenwood 1
Ravenwood (13-3) seized the early momentum, recording a goal in the ninth minute by Bentley Briggs. Avery Stevens nearly tied the match for Bearden with her shot in the 36th minute but Ravenwood led at the break 1-nil, having outshot Bearden by a 7-3 margin.
The Lady Bulldogs (17-3-1) bounced back after the break, though.
In the 45th minute, off a corner kick, Hannah Nye rebounded and put back in a shot to knot the game at 1-all. Bearden broke that tie in the 68th minute when a Ravenwood deflection by keeper Emma West wound up being finished off by Myranda Lima.
Ravenwood’s last legit look at tying the game came on a corner kick in the 70th minute.
Bearden advanced to play at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Howard in a state semifinal against Houston, which was an 8-0 winner Tuesday over Oakland.
The Lady Bulldogs are all too familiar with Houston, having beaten them in last year’s state championship match and having lost to Houston in the 2024 state tournament finale.
CLASS AA:
Anderson County 3, Sycamore 2
Anderson County (16-5-1) overcame a disastrous start in its first state tournament appearance since 2004.
Sycamore, in its first-ever state tournament appearance, couldn’t have dreamed up a better start, as it scored twice in the opening five minutes.
The Lady Mavs tied it by the break, though.
Lady Mavs senior Roxanna Aguilar got AC on the board with her goal in the 14th minute. Delila Colby, a junior, provided the equalizer in the 39th minute. AC had eight shots in the first half to nine by Sycamore (18-3).
AC sophomore Kate Swisher’s second-half goal will be long remembered, as it not only put the Lady Mavs ahead for good but also proved the game-winner in what was the program’s first-ever state tournament win. Anderson County hadn’t recorded a win a state in its appearances in 1997, 1998 nor 2004.
Anderson County advanced to play at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Baylor in a state semifinal against South Gibson, a state-tournament regular since 2018.
CLASS AA:
South Gibson 2, Greeneville 1
Greeneville (16-5-1) and South Gibson reached the halftime break knotted at 0-0 at host-site Baylor.
Greeneville owned the pace in the first 40 minutes, though, firing off seven shots to South Gibson’s one.
South Gibson keeper Heather Hansen made three saves, as the Lady Greene Devils fired off a flurry of shots from the 18th minute to the final minute of the half.
Greeneville finally broke open the scoring with Vivian Kammerdiener’s goal in the 47th minute.
But some 23 seconds later, South Gibson’s Rylee Hood answered with a goal.
For the next 25 minutes, Greeneville stayed on the offensive, consistently getting off shots. But to no avail.
South Gibson sophomore Jaci Walters got the game-winner in the 77th minute off an assist from Hood. Greeneville’s Peyton Vaught got off a shot with just under 2 minutes to play but it didn’t connect.
Greeneville posted 17 shots — eight of which were on goal.
South Gibson had eight shots — five on goal.
