MURFREESBORO — Both the Greeneville and Oak Ridge baseball teams scrapped like mad to reach Saturday’s championship round.
Only one made it, though.
After dropping its 2 p.m. game Friday, 9-1, to South Gibson, the Greeneville baseball team answered right back and eliminated South Gibson with a 9-1 victory, which sent the Greene Devils to the 3A title game.
Kobe Mundy went 3 for 4 with three RBIs to lead the way for Greeneville in the night cap, as Carson Norris handled matters on the mound. He pitched a complete-game four-hitter, fanning four and walking one.
Greeneville (35-9) will play Munford (27-16) at 11 a.m. Central time Saturday, the game being held at Siegel High School in Murfreesboro.
Greeneville is seeking its first state title since 2023 and third overall. Munford has one state baseball championship (1991).
OAK RIDGE FALLS IN EXTRAS
Down 6-2 in the seventh inning of their 2 p.m. game, Oak Ridge rallied to force extra innings. But Clarksville advanced, 7-6, in 10 innings.
Oak Ridge needed to win twice Friday to reach Saturday’s title game, where Farragut awaited.
Down four runs late, Mikee Teasley singled in two and Parker Free doubled in two to knot the score at 6-all in the seventh.
Clarksville (38-7) loaded the bases with one out in the 10th, and Cade Abernathy drove home the game-winning run that prevented Oak Ridge from forcing an if-necessary game.
Warren East, Free, Teasley and Cy Stephens all had two-hit days for Oak Ridge in the loss. Free led OR with three RBIs.
Oak Ridge finished the season 36-9 and reached the final four for the first time in program history.
