ALCOA — Alcoa’s state tournament bid was suddenly in jeopardy.
The Lady Ts, once on the doorstep of putting Upperman away for good in the Class 3A Sectional Final, had gotten sloppy. After holding the Lady Bees scoreless for the first three minutes of the second half, miscommunication and a bevy of turnovers dwindled their lead down to one.
David Baumann spent a timeout, but the Alcoa head coach wasn’t surprised by the push — nor worried.
A few moments later, Lady Ts junior guard Brylee Flatt hit a jumper. Senior forward Maddy Stewart blocked a shot on the defensive end and followed it up with a score. Senior guard Gwen Carroll buried a 3-pointer from the corner.
