Though it happened a decade ago, Kenny Cobble can well recall his baptism into an East Tennessee high school football rivalry known as the Battle of Pistol Creek.
After a five-year stint as Jefferson County High School’s head coach, Cobble joined George Quarles’ staff at Maryville prior to the 2016 season.
And in Week Four of the Rebels’ schedule — Sept. 9, 2016, to be exact — Cobble got to coach in and experience his first Maryville-Alcoa game.
“You learn very quickly about just how much it means to everybody in the community,” Cobble said Tuesday.
“It’s like the whole area just stops for this one.”
The whole state, even.
