CLINTON – Clinton’s football team ran out of magic Friday night.
Walker Valley of Cleveland rallied from a 14-point deficit and beat the Dragons 24-20 in the Class 5A state quarterfinals.
Clinton (6-7) was making its first state quarterfinal appearance since 1992 and was seeking its first semifinal berth since the ’92 team reached the state championship game.
“It’s been momentous,” Clinton coach Darrell Keith said of his team’s late-season run. “I tell you, when we were 2-6, we took a lot of disrespect from the coaches in the area, a lot of disrespect from people outside the community. All it did was make us bond and be tougher.
