GREENBACK – Coalfield’s defense played the role of spoiler Friday night.
The Yellow Jackets held Greenback to eight first downs and 143 total yards during a 20-14 victory in a game for first place in the Region 2-A standings.
Coalfield (8-1, 6-0) clinched the region title by beating Greenback (8-1, 5-1) for the seventh straight time.
“We’ve said all year we’re going to rely on our defense,” Coalfield coach Benson Napier said. “I put them in a couple of bad spots tonight and they bailed us out, were able to get stop after stop and got the big one to win the game.”
