CORRYTON — Once Gibbs found itself Friday night, the Eagles continued their march to host a state playoff game.
The Eagles — ranked No. 7 in Class 4A — held Fulton scoreless in the second half and scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to pull away for a 31-6 victory on Senior Night at Ernest Whited Stadium.
Gibbs (7-1, 4-1 Region 2-4A) won its fifth straight game and can guarantee itself a first-round home game with wins over Heritage and Carter the final two weeks.
Fulton (3-5, 2-3) committed five turnovers but remained within striking distance through three quarters.
“We had a bad mind-set coming into the first half,” Gibbs junior linebacker Memphis Wilson said.
“Second half, we got talked to by our coaches, and it just changed the way we played. We played more physical and we were more prepared.”
