STRAWBERRY PLAINS — Halls coach Brent Hughes has been adamant about getting his team to take it one game at a time this season.
The Red Devils should have no trouble zeroing in on their next opponent.
The Red Devils improved to 5-0 Friday with a convincing 42-7 demolition of Carter (3-2).
That sets up a key Region 2-5A showdown next week against rival Powell (3-2) in Halls.
“I’m ready for Powell right now,” said Hughes, whose Red Devils have been one of the turnaround teams of 2023 after going 2-9 last season.
“Matt Lowe (Powell coach) … I can’t say enough good things about him and he has a very good football team. This 5-0 start is really good, but not only is this (Powell) our first region game, it’s a rival game.”
Halls hasn’t started 6-0 since 1996 when the Red Devils won their first 14 games before falling to Pearl-Cohn in the state championship game.
