OAK RIDGE – Maryville’s football team found motivation from its opponent Thursday night.
Senior quarterback Will Jones accounted for four touchdowns, leading the Rebels to a 48-17 victory over host Oak Ridge in the regular-season finale for both teams.
Maryville (9-1, 6-0 in Region 2-6A) already had secured the region’s top seeding before the game at Oak Ridge (7-3, 3-3).
“To be honest with you, Oak Ridge is such a worthy opponent,” Maryville coach Kenny Cobble said. “They’ve got so many great players out on the field. You can’t help when you turn on the tape to have to respect them and know that you’re going to have to come play well to have a chance to beat them. I think they had our attention all week long.”
