ALCOA — Maryville turned a rivalry game into a statement win Tuesday night.
Eli Owensby led a balanced attack as the Rebels used their size, depth and defensive pressure to pull away from host Alcoa for a 71-52 win. Maryville broke the game open with a decisive second-quarter surge, carried a 16-point lead into halftime and never let the Tornadoes seriously threaten after the break.
Eli Owensby scored 15 points to lead Maryville, which put four players in double figures. Jonathan Woodlee, Julian Douglas and Luke Sigmund each added 10, as the Rebels dictated the game at both ends of the floor.
“We want to use our size to our advantage, and tonight we were able to let our defense become our best offense,” Maryville coach Wes Lambert said. “That’s going to be a huge factor for us every night, and we have to lean into it.”
