OAK RIDGE — Oak Ridge junior catcher Parker Free experienced a world of emotions Thursday afternoon along with his father, Wildcats baseball coach Travis Free.
Parker Free hit the game-winning, two-run double in the seventh inning, lifting Oak Ridge to a 5-3 victory over visiting Kingsport Dobyns-Bennett in Game 2 of the best-of-three series in the Class 4A state sectional round.
With Thursday’s win at the Oak Ridge Baseball Complex, the Wildcats clinched the sectional series 2-0 for a berth in next week’s state tournament in Murfreesboro.
Travis Free was the pitching coach at Dobyns-Bennett from 2011 through 2017.
