LOUDON – Meigs County’s football team had its way against Loudon during the early stages of Thursday night’s full-contact scrimmage.
The Tigers scored touchdowns on four of five offensive possessions against Loudon’s first-team defense.
“I thought we got exposed in some areas, but Meigs always does,” Loudon coach Jeff Harig said. “That’s why we scrimmage them. They come ready to play. They’re a very physical football team.
“They’re going to be a good football team this year. The quarterback (Tuff Ricker) is very veteran. They’ve got some athletes around him, a big offensive and defensive line, so I expect them to play several weeks in the playoffs.”
Meigs (9-4) advanced to the Class 3A state quarterfinals last year before losing to Sequatchie County 35-27. The Tigers move from Region 3-3A into Region 2-3A this year with Austin-East, McMinn Central, Kingston, Scott, and Sweetwater.
Loudon (11-1) lost in the second round of last year’s Class 4A playoffs to White County 28-0 but played that game without starting quarterback Bronson Scrivner.
With the graduation of Scrivner, senior Nolan Bassett to quarterback this fall after playing inside linebacker as a junior.
