JEFFERSON CITY — Championships come with labels: The best. Undefeated. Champions. But Cinderella? Hardly. Sevier County’s Smoky Bears took that notion personally. After all, a 15-0 season and a Class 5A state title deserve far more respect.
Well, bippity-boppity … boom.
Behind Cooper Newman’s two touchdown passes and a defense that held Farragut scoreless until the final minutes, the Smoky Bears cruised to a 27-7 victory Saturday night in the FirstBank Football Classic at Carson-Newman University.
“They kind of took offense to some people calling them ‘Cinderella’ because of how hard they worked and how hard they practiced,” Sevier County coach Todd Loveday said.
