MARYVILLE —Isaac Cookston didn’t want the ball.
The Carter wide receiver told his quarterback, Brody Sparks, as much in the huddle before a do-or-die fourth-and-7 with just over two minutes left at Jack Renfro Stadium Friday.
Moments later, Cookston was laying on his back in the end zone, cradling the ball.
In a hectic final for five minutes between Heritage and Carter that produced blow after blow like it was a prize fight, Sparks and Cookston had landed the haymaker.
