Coach Greg Hernandez wasn’t too worried when his Webb School of Knoxville girls’ basketball team trailed 15-9 against visiting Alcoa in the first quarter Friday night.
The Lady Spartans hadn’t played a game in a week and had only been practicing.
Hernandez wasn’t surprised by the slow start.
“I just knew that eventually once we got into the game and the rhythm,” he said, “that we had an opportunity if we did things right — get in the gaps, keep them from getting to the paint, force them to take tough shots, limit them to one shot where we can get out in transition — that we had a chance to push ahead and make up for that early deficit.”
Hernandez was correct.
