The Christian Academy of Knoxville girls’ golf team ended a state championship drought in 2024.
Now, the Lady Warriors have a legitimate chance to repeat.
CAK shot 10-over-par 150 in Thursday’s first round of the TSSAA Division II-A State Tournament at Sevierville Golf Club’s Highland Course.
Trinity Christian (159), Providence (160) and Lakeway Christian (161) weren’t far behind.
Trinity Christian’s Tori Robinson topped the leaderboard at 5-under 65. Boyd-Buchanan’s Alli Troxell was second at 68.
CAK’s Isabella Coughlin and Lakeway’s Riley Reed tied for third on Thursday with 74s.
Grady Thomas’ 76 helped comprise CAK’s 150 team mark. Her 76 placed her in a tie seventh.
The CAK Lady Warriors have four team championships and last repeated in 2015-16.
Division II-A BOYS
The First Baptist Academy boys’ golf program will try and win the school’s first-ever TSSAA team championship on Friday.
The Eagles shot 8-over 296 Thursday on the River Course to post a five-shot lead over Webb (Bell Buckle) and Franklin Road Academy.
CAK was tied for fourth at 302 with Jackson Christian.
Jackson Christian’s Carson Andreoni and FRA’s Walker Webb led after Day One at 3-under 69.
Tyler Stafford of CAK was solo third Thursday with a 70.
Four FBA players finished tied for 14th or better. Alex Green led the way with a 73. Maxwell Green and Lane Stokes carded 74s. Jesse Clowers shot 75.
Division I-A GIRLS
The Greeneville Lady Greene Devils have a chance at history on Friday. They could secure their first-ever state championship in girls golf with another solid performance.
Greeneville posted a 7-over 147 team mark on Thursday and that produced a five-shot lead over Murfreesboro Central. Signal Mountain (156) and Summertown (157) will be within striking distance to start Friday’s final round. Alcoa was sixth at 165.
Greeneville’s girls finished state runner-up in 1984 and 2009.
Springfield’s Elizabeth Prowse led after Round One in Division I-A girls, as her 71 on the Highland Course was good enough for a two-shot lead.
Greeneville’s Brylee Catron was tied for second at 73 and teammate Kylee Renner tied for fourth at 74. Kamryn Renner was tied for sixth after a 77.
Anderson County’s Sydney May was also tied for sixth at 77.
Division I-A BOYS
Stone Memorial’s Parker Beck carried the banner for 5Star Preps coverage boys golfers on Thursday in the Division I-A tournament.
Beck made four birdies in his first round en route to a 1-over 73, which placed him in a four-way tie for third.
Fulton’s Beckett Stout got off to a solid start a 1 over after seven holes but signed for a 78. He’s tied for 16th, along with Elizabethton’s Tyler York.
Sam Otwell of Signal Mountain led after Round One with a 68.
Signal Mountain topped the first-round leaderboard with a 10-over 298.
Elizabethton was fifth at 326 and Kingston was sixth at 327.
