CLASS A
COALFIELD 5, Greenfield 0
The Yellow Jackets, who finished as state runners-up in 2025, got their trip this week off on the right path, posting two runs in the first and three in the second to give starting pitcher Waylon Burgess plenty of run support.
Burgess, a 6-foot-4 senior with velo in the 90s, fanned eight batters and allowed one hit in 4.1 innings of work.
Coalfield (31-7) got just two hits Tuesday. Jorden Steinhauer, Knox Pemberton and Eli Coleman each had an RBI.
The Yellow Jackets face 2025 state champion Eagleville at 12:30 p.m. Central time Wednesday at Wilson Central. The winner will move into Thursday’s semifinal and will have to lose twice Thursday to not reach the title game.
CLASS 2A
PIGEON FORGE 9, Scotts Hill 3
The Tigers were making their first state tournament appearance since 2022.
Didn’t show.
Newly minted Class 2A Mr. Baseball winner Brody Watson went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and freshman Collier Helton went 1-for-4 with three RBIs to propel Pigeon Forge (32-5) to a big day at the plate. The Tigers scored three in the first, three in the second and two in the third to stake a commanding 8-1 lead.
That proved plenty for Helton, who went five full innings, striking out five and walking one. He allowed just four hits.
Pigeon Forge will face Milan (26-10-1) at 12:30 p.m. Central time on Wednesday at Stewarts Creek High. The winner will move into Thursday’s semifinal and will have to lose twice Thursday to not reach the title game.
White House Heritage 3, Sweetwater 1
Sweetwater got out to a 1-0 lead but couldn’t hold on. Dacus got the Wildcats’ lone RBI thanks to a sacrifice bunt.
Sweetwater (26-12) will face Martin Westview (25-13) at 10 a.m. Central time on Wednesday in an elimination game at Riverdale.
CLASS 3A
ALCOA 21, Covington 0
The Tornadoes had never won a state tournament game.
They fixed that on Tuesday — in a big way.
Alcoa collected 19 RBIs on 13 hits, while Alcoa starting pitcher Myles Cox threw a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks.
Cox also went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Aden Orrick and Carver Worde each drove in three runs in the win.
Alcoa advances in the winners bracket, where it will take on Greeneville at 12:30 p.m. Central time on Wednesday at host-site Smyrna. The winner will move into Thursday’s semifinal and will have to lose twice Thursday to not reach the title game.
GREENEVILLE 4, Lawrence County 1
Defending state champion Greeneville (39-6) trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the third but Will Harmon and Grayson Crosby connected on RBI-singles to put the Greene Devils ahead 2-1.
Kaine Ricker grounded into a fielder’s choice to add an insurance run in the sixth, and Tegan Begley’s RBI-single after that added one more run for good measure.
HERITAGE 9, Liberty Creek 1
University of Tennessee commit Gaven French pitched five innings, striking out 10 and allowing two hits. He also went 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.
Beckett Littleton, a sophomore at Heritage, had a big day. He went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.
Hayden Sanders and Thomas Bowers each drove in two runs for the Mountaineers (34-12), who were making their state tournament debut.
Heritage, should it beat Crockett County (36-3) in a 12:30 p.m. Central game Wednesday at Blackman High, can advance to Thursday’s state semifinal round, where it would have to lose twice to not reach the title game.
Crockett County 5, Gibbs 1
Class 3A Mr. Baseball winner Carter Winders of Crockett County pitched 5.1 innings of three-hit baseball, striking out six and walking none.
He also went 1-for-3 at the plate.
Gibbs (31-11) will play an elimination game at 10 a.m. Central time on Wednesday against Liberty Creek (30-9).
CLASS 4A
FARRAGUT 6, Collierville 3
Full game report.
HOUSTON 11, Oak Ridge 8
Oak Ridge trailed 5-0 going into the bottom of the second but erupted for eight runs. The Wildcats (33-10-1) couldn’t hold on to that lead, though. Houston (29-13) pulled even with three runs in the top of the fifth. The Mustangs loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the seventh, and they took advantage, plating three to go ahead 11-8.
Oak Ridge got two runners on in the bottom of the seventh, but the rally never produced.
Mikee Teasley, a senior at Oak Ridge and Tennessee commit, went 5-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI. He won his second Class 4A Mr. Baseball award earlier in the day.
Jaiden Cheverton went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. His home run in the second inning capped the eight-run outburst.
But Oak Ridge, which reached the semifinals last year, will have to beat Shelbyville at 10 a.m. Central on Wednesday to avoid elimination.
DIVISION II-A
LAKEWAY 3, Franklin Grace 1
The Lions (26-14) did well in their first-ever state tournament appearance, chalking up a 3-1 win after trailing by a run early.
Lakeway scored three in the fourth to take the lead for good.
Allen went 1-for-3 for Lakeway with two RBIs.
Burnett got the win, going all seven innings and scattering five hits. He fanned four and walked two.
Lakeway will take on St. George’s (28-7) at 12:30 p.m. Central time on Wednesday. The winner moves on to Thursday’s championship game. The loser drops to a 5 p.m. semifinal game for the right to move on to the title game.
