Emery Bales’ walk-up music “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield had more than one meaning on Tuesday night.
The Halls softball senior pitcher and designated player likely uses that song for its message about being the author of your own story, and not the references to precipitation.
But seconds after the “feel the rain on your skin” line played over the speaker, on a night where the players had literally been doing that all game, Bales belted an extra-inning, walk-off hit to lift the Lady Red Devils past Maryville 3-2 in the elimination semifinals of the Region 2-4A Tournament.
“I was just thinking base hit the whole time,” Bales said.
“There’s no better feeling than walking it off for your team to keep them going in the postseason.”
