With the 2025 TSSAA State Golf Tournaments just around the corner, area high school golf programs and individuals are vying this week for qualifying spots through their respective region tournaments.
Sevierville Golf Club will once again serve as the TSSAA State Tournament host course, doing so Oct. 6-7 for Division I-AA and Division II-AA and then again Oct. 9-10 for Division I-A and Division II-A.
Here’s a quick glance at some of the results — with scores below…
The Hardin Valley Academy girls’ and boys’ golf teams both won Region 2-AA Tournament titles on Monday, Sept. 29, at Beaver Brook Country Club in Knoxville.
Addisyn Newman’s 74 led the way for the Lady Hawks, who are all too familiar with what to expect next week at state. HVA tied for third in last year’s Division I-AA state tournament, and Newman tied for first in that event.
Jake Sheffield, the 2025 5Star Preps Masters champion, claimed medalist honors in the boys Region 2-AA Tournament on Monday at Beaver Brook with a 66. His score was good enough for a 3-shot win, individually, and helped HVA win by eight shots to claim their first-ever berth in a boys golf state tournament.
At the Region 2-A Tournament at Springbrook Golf and Country Club in Niota, Tenn., the Kingston boys and Alcoa girls teams each won playoffs to advance to the state tournament fields.
Kingston topped Anderson County for the boys title. Hayden Weaver and Brady Fay led Kingston in the win with matching 79s. Maddox Tackett and Max Stanfill from Anderson County advanced to state as individuals thanks to shooting 77 and 78, respectively.
The Alcoa girls topped the Anderson County girls in a playoff after each squad shot 168 in regulation. Sophia Parsons led Alcoa with an 81. Anderson County’s top two players — Sydney May (79) and Molly Jacakson (89) — still scored low enough to qualify for state as individuals.
In Region 1-A, which was played Monday at Elizabethton Golf Course, the Elizabethton boys and Greeneville girls secured team state-tournament berths with ease.
Elizabethton shot 319 to win by seven shots. Bryson Hardin led the Cyclones with a round of 72, earning medalist honors. Seymour’s Corbin Johnson advanced to state as an individual after shooting 78.
Greeneville’s girls golf team won by 38 shots and return to the state tournament. Brylee Catron won medalist honors for Greeneville on Monday with a round of 75. She and teammates Kamryn Renner and Kylee Renner placed fifth collectively at the 2024 TSSAA Division I-AA state tournament. This time around, though, they’ll be in the Division I-A field.
The Division II-A Region Tournament was held Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Three Ridges Golf Course, and First Baptist Academy’s boys won a region title with a winning mark of 299. They and CAK’s boys (305) both advanced to the state tournament. Lane Stokes led FBA with a 71. Tyler Stafford, of CAK, was the tournament medalist (70). Sam Helms of Berean and Chris Hamilton of Concord advanced as individuals, with Hamilton earning the right to move on in a playoff. He’s the first golfer in Concord Christian history to reach state.
In Division II-A girls, defending state champion CAK won its region tournament by 17 shots, as Isabella Coughlin paved the way with her tournament-low round of 70. Lakeway’s girls will also advance after their 171 placed them second. Grace Christian’s Lydia Walker advanced as an individual, as did Boyd-Buchanan’s Alli Troxell.
