BOYS FIRST TEAM
Trey Bailey, jr., Greeneville
RUNNER OF THE YEAR
The latest in a long line of top-shelf runners for the Greene Devils, Bailey was state Class AA champion in 15:12.89 and the Section 1 winner in 15:58.29. His state championship win over almost 200 other runners on Nov. 6 at Shelby Farms Park in Memphis capped a rare undefeated cross-country regular season. Seldom challenged, Bailey also established a new Greeneville record for 5K with a 15:01.14 clocking on his way to winning the prestigious Jesse Owens Classic. Furman, Ole Miss, Wake Forest and Belmont are the schools that have shown the most interest in Bailey to date.
Tommy Babbit, jr., Maryville
Babbit followed up a second-place showing in the Section 3 meet (15:24.78) with a third-place effort (15:37.23) at the Class AAA state championships.
Duncan Oshumu, soph., The King’s Academy
Lions underclassman posted a strong time of 15:48.47 on his way to winning the state Division II-A title. He also was third in the Division II-A East Region Meet.
Nicholas Burke, sr., West
Burke was one of the area’s most consistent runners throughout the season. He was 12th at the state AAA meet in 16:03.48, third at KIL in 16:01.53 and fourth in Section 2 in 16:25.50.
Cade Duncanson, jr., Catholic
Irish standout was medalist at KIL Championships back in October with a winning effort of 15:40.44. He also garnered a 13th-place showing in the Division II-AA state meet with a 16:07.42 clocking.
Sam Shagan, sr., Farragut
The highlight of the season for the Admirals’ standout was a victory (15:56.36) in the Section 2 meet back on Oct. 29 in Oak Ridge. Shagan was also fifth (16:11.27) at KIL and 14th (16:12.10) at the state AAA championships.
Evan Van DeGriff, soph., Catholic
Van DeGriff opened eyes in mid October when he ran 15:45.02 to claim second in the KIL Championships. The Irish underclassman capped his season with a 17th-place showing (16:22.64) at the D2-AA state meet in Memphis.
BOYS SECOND TEAM
Noah Losacker, jr., Lakeway Christian
Losacker won the D-II A East Region Meet in 16:29.33. He followed that up with a second-place effort of 16:15.96 at the state Division II-A championships.
Baker Brooks, soph., Alcoa
One of the top young runners in the area, Brooks was second (15:59.76) in the Section 2 meet and ninth (16:30.79) in the state AA championship meet.
Mason Greenhalgh, sr. Oak Ridge
Wildcats veteran took third (16:11.83) in the Section 2-3A meet before placing 29th at the state 3A meet with a posting of 16:31.15.
McCade Frye, sr., Sweetwater
Frye recorded a sizzling time of 15:42.62 to win the Section 2-AA race. He also placed 11th in the AA state meet with a clocking of 16:33.91.
Chase Temples, soph., Farragut
Temples posted finishes of second (16:09.35), fourth (16:06.98) and 36th (16:34.44), respectively, at the region, KIL and state meets.
Luke McCall, jr., William Blount
Registered a 27th-place performance in the state Class AAA championship meet, finishing in 16:27.64. McCall also garnered a fourth-place (16:15.44) showing in the Section 3 meet.
Ayden Burke, jr., Cocke County
Burke saved his best for last, taking the No. 16 slot (16:18.49) at the 3-A state championship meet. He also finished in ninth place in the Region 1-AAA race.
BOYS THIRD TEAM
Isaac Socha, soph., Hardin Valley
Socha followed up his seventh-place (16:37.34) performance at the Section 2 meet with a 39th-place (16:36.48) effort at the state 3A meet.
Parson Campen, jr., Central
Campen’s resume included a 40th-place (16:36.75) at the state Class AAA meet and a 14th-place (16:56.84) at the Section 2 championships.
John Cutler, jr., Anderson County
Cutler ran 16:48.63 (14th place) at the state Class AA meet and 16:17.96 (fourth) at the Section 2 meet.
Aiden Rufi, jr., Hardin Valley
Among the highlights for Rufi were a sixth-place (16:12.20) at the KIL Championships and a 46th-place (16:37.96) at the 3A state championship meet.
Stephen Bell, jr., Hardin Valley
Bell ran 16:42.92 to take 53rd at the state Class AAA championship meet. He also placed 11th (16:49.34) at the Section 2 meet and eighth (16:18.08) at KIL.
Andrew Cabaniss, jr., Farragut
Highlights for Cabaniss included 10th place (16:24.63) at the KIL Championships and 42nd place (16:37.31) at the state Class AAA meet.
Bradyn Lewis, soph., Gatlinburg-Pittman
Highlanders standout underclassman followed up a runner-up showing at the Class A Sectional with a fifth-place finish (16:43.43) at the state Class A Championships.

GIRLS FIRST TEAM
Calysta Garmer, sr., Webb
RUNNER OF THE YEAR
The Furman signee repeated as state Division II-AA medalist and led Webb to its third-consecutive team state championship and 13th state team title in school history. Along the way, Garmer was dominating. She won the state individual title by more than 22 seconds, finishing in 17:05.62. Garmer won the October KIL Championships by over 41 seconds, clocking in with a time of 16:56.57. She capped her cross-country career with a top-25 national finish at the Brooks XC Championships on Dec. 14 in San Diego. Garmer finished the 5K course in 18:02.1 to place 22nd out of 47 of the best runners in the nation. Calysta and her sister, Jazzlyn, finish their careers as rare five-time first-team honorees on the 5Star Preps Girls Cross Country Team.
Jazzlyn Garmer, sr., Webb
Garmer closed out the cross-country season in spectacular fashion at the Brooks XC Championship on Dec. 14 in San Diego. Garmer became the first Tennessee runner to earn All-American honors in the event as she placed 14th (17:46) in the 5K race against the nation’s best distaff runners. Also a Furman signee, Garmer placed third (17:30.34) in the Division II-AA championships, marking the third year in a row that Jazzlyn and her sister, Calysta, both finished in the top 10 individually at state.
Carolina Areheart, sr., Webb
The Vanderbilt signee capped her stellar high school cross-country career for the Lady Spartans with a fourth-place (18:07.90) at the state Division II-AA meet. Areheart also was runner-up at the KIL meet in 17:38.29. She also qualified for the Brooks Nationals, but was unable to run.
Ava Moody, sr., Anderson County
The much-decorated Lady Mavericks star dominated Class AA at both the sectional and state levels. Moody took the Section 2 individual title by 25 seconds in Chattanooga, posting a winning time of 17:37.66. She captured the Class AA state championship with a time of 18:20.45, winning by 19 seconds.
Kacey Holliday, sr. Catholic
Holliday was fourth (18:27.24) at KIL before helping the Lady Irish to a state runner-up finish in Division II-AA. She was sixth at the state meet, crossing the finish line in 18:34.33.
Drew Gerkin, soph., Catholic
Finished eighth (18:48.97) in a packed field at the DII-AA state meet. Gerkin also registered a fifth-place (18:30.22) showing at KIL.
Arvella Nave, soph., Elizabethon
Lady Cyclone standout posted strong finishes at both the Section 1 (19:40, first place) and Class AA state (18.39.47, second place) meets.
GIRLS SECOND TEAM
Sophie Lee, fresh., Grace Christian
Lee was a study in consistency despite being just a ninth grader. She won the DII-A East Region title in 19:00.75, was second in the DII-A state championship meet in 19:03.16 and placed seventh (18:48.77) at the KIL Championships.
Ana Berkheimer, jr., Hardin Valley
Berkheimer arguably saved her best for last, running a sizzling time of 18:45.37 to place 16th at the 3A state meet. She was also ninth (20:14.24) at the Section 2 meet and 10th (19:11.04) at KIL.
Hadleih Mitchey, fresh., Heritage
The future is bright for the Lady Mountaineers’ ninth grader after she recorded a pair of third-place showings at both the Class AA state meet (18:57.39) and the Section 2 meet (18:07.47).
Emma Cissna, jr., Webb
Another key cog in the Lady Spartans’ drive to yet another state championship, Cissna placed ninth individually at both the state (19:01.41) and KIL (19:04.92) meets.
Avery Jo Thomas, sr., Heritage
Thomas cruised to a fifth-place showing (19:15.67) at the state Class AA meet and was fourth (18:33.63) in Section 2.
Rachel Benson, sr., Hardin Valley
The Lady Hawks got strong efforts from Benson at state (26th, 19:15.55), sectionals (fifth, 19:17.73) and KIL (eighth, 18:56.81).
Alexandra Vesser, jr., Hardin Valley
Highlights for Vesser this season included a Section 2 individual championship (19:03), a No. 3 finish at KIL (18:21.67) and a 28th-place effort at the state Class AAA meet (19:19.15).
GIRLS THIRD TEAM
Caitlin Daniels, soph., Catholic
Daniels was 15th at the state Division II-AA meet with a time of 19:26.87. She also took the No. 11 spot at KIL in 19:04.92.
Zoi LeCours, jr., Farragut
LeCours had a pair of top-six finishes locally as she placed fourth (19:17.24) at the Section 2 meet and sixth (18:46.54) at KIL. She was 35th at the 3A state championships with a clocking of 19:40.26.
Christie George, sr., Farragut
Highlights for George this season included: third (19:08.99) in sectionals, 13th (19:27.28) at KIL, 31st (19:30.15) at state AAA meet.
Ariana Vargas, jr., Webb
The fifth Lady Spartan to make our team, Vargas finished 16th at the DII-AA state meet in 19:27.35. At KIL she was 17th in 19:51.16.
Addison Haynes, soph., Farragut
Haynes was 10th (20:33.24) at the Section 2 meet, 25th (21:07.04) at KIL and 40th (19:47.01) at the state Class AAA meet.
Julia Joyce, fresh., Catholic
Joyce ran 19:48.01 in Memphis to finish in 19th place at the state DII-AA meet. She was 12th at KIL with a time of 19:26.32.
Ava Woodyatt, jr., Hardin Valley
Lady Hawks runner left her mark at the KIL Championships (14th, 19:32.86), the Section 2 meet (12th, 20:47.74) and the state AAA meet (46th, 19:55.74).
Amaijah Bishop, soph., Oak Ridge
Bishop ran a strong seventh (20:04.49) for the Lady Wildcats at the Section 2 meet. In the state 3A championships she placed 45th in 19:54.21.
Netsha Gibson, sr., Maryville
Gibson toured the state Section 3 course in 19:13.18 to place third. At the state Class AAA championships she was 48th in 19:56.26.
