POWELL — Powell hadn’t played up to its standard as the regular season came to a close, and the players knew it.
The Panthers called a players-only meeting, re-establishing goals and making sure everyone was on the same page as the postseason began. That Sunday meeting transitioned into a week of focused practice and a TSSAA Round 1 result that dispelled any concerns of the sputtering play carrying into the postseason.
Powell opened the playoffs with a 42-21 win over Morristown West on Friday night, using a consistent offensive showing to cruise to the win.
The Panthers (10-1) will host Lincoln County (9-1) next Friday in the second round.
